Aloha ALL,
Been awhile, hope everyone has been doing great. Me? Busy with a lot of things like trying to spend time with my family, caring for our Furkidz, fine tuning some knife designs, testing a few as well, standing in the rain for hours with an AR15/REM870 during a possible riot at the airport, twisting up inmates...the "usual".
Cripes.
ANYWAY, showing my age a bit with the thread title, but I am not referring to the dance craze of the 70's. I am talking 'bout discontinued models of mine from the Boker Plus line. Disco'd models for 2009 are:
Trance Drop Point: Why that is, I have no idea...know tons of folks who like that wide blade...but then again, there are those who love the original blade shape of the first Trance. At any rate, I did not see this one coming. The Trance Drop Point is however, still kinda popular in Europe though, but in the US...they'll soon be gone.
Original RESCOM Folder: Ahhhhhh...this one I kinda thought so. Once the all Black Rescom and Red Rescom hit the line, the Original black scale, bead blasted bladed version's days got numbered. Still a solid and proven concept...especially the other night when I had to cut Flex Cuffs off a ton of inmates!
Desert Subcom CE: AAAArrrrRRrrrRrRgh! This was one of my favorite beater knives!!! The color is nice, and a good change of pace from the "typical" black scale affair. I do think however, that this scale color with a PE, would have still been in the line up. Shoot, make that PE with a black blade for that matter! I am gonna miss seeing this one though.
MPT Black CE and MPT PE: The PE version got a great review in Tactical Knives magazine. The MPT Black IMHO, has the smoothest cutting serrations I ever used. In fact, so much so, that I am pretty certain I asked Boker to use this exact pattern size on all my CE variants! I call them, "Scare-Ations"...Anyway, the handle was NOT supposed to have been ribbed, but it proved functional. My MPT PE I still carry and use in the yard on a Mercharness. I will miss seeing these guys also, BUT it does open the door for my MPD with a Kydex sheath and G10 handle scales. We'll see.
M-TYPE Black CE: So did not see this one coming!!! If this one had the SE pattern like the MPT Black, might still be in the line. I just...ahhhh...I dunno. IIRC, this one was just featued with some other knives in American Handgunner magazine!
HYPER Black CE: Rinse and repeat pretty much what I said about the M-TYPE Black CE...although this one was not in said magazine.
I realize that every model has a certain "life span" in the industry, and all the disco'd models are survived by some variant. Well, all except the MPT's. I just wanted to shout out a BIG MAHALO MUCH to those who own these models, use them, or merely showed an interest in them. Last but not least, mahalo much to Boker for making these designs a reality.
God bless and thanks everyone.
