YAH BABY!!!...after about 14 days of thinking and 3 days of on/of work my surfacegrinder is finished...can´t believe how well it works....holds a tolerance below 0.001" which is much better than I had expected..So far I have done a testrun on a piece of unhardened steel, 2 hardened folderblades AND...I found a way to attach none magnetic materials to the chuck so I made a backspacer for the folder I was doing in G10 in nothing flat.....something I used a LONG time on before and something I had to work hard to get precise.....now......piece of cake.....man I love this thing ...heck even the "dust-removal-system" I made for it works great....catches 99% of the airborn particles...

hey Jens,

That looks like a good addition to your workshop. Way to go. What did you use as a base for it? Seemingly you recuperated the table from another machine?

Unfortunately my grit grinder is in repair for the moment.. motor problems :( Am stuck to filework for the moment.

actually the whole machine minus the beltgrinder looked like this...it was somekind of horizontal millingmachine/grinder something...it took a while to figure out how to build the grinder around it but when I had it figured out it wasnt to bad.....I love this thing!

Grit huh...how do you like that?

hello Jens,

Sounds fun to rebuild such a machine. When building folders like you, a good surface grinder is a must.

I am just a hobbyist knifemaker. All my knives are handforged, and the only machines i have in my workshop are my grit grinder (copy of the square wheel grinder), a small electra beckum grinder (for sharpening), a polishing machine and 2 drill presses. I like the grit grinder a lot (unfortunately it broke down, but it is in repair) and use it for flat and convex grinding, and rough handle shaping.

c u later,

tim
