Amsterdam MEET

On Sunday, February 26, Eric Glesser and select members of our Crew hosted the annual Spyderco “Meet” in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. A time-honored tradition, Spyderco Meets are truly remarkable events that give a select group of knife enthusiasts a sneak peek at some of our concept models and prototypes to gauge their responses and solicit feedback. To our knowledge, Spyderco is the only knife company to take this unique approach, which we have found to be incredibly beneficial to our product development process.

The 65 guests fortunate enough to attend this year’s Meet got a rare glimpse of dozens of knives slated for possible inclusion in Spyderco’s product line. Eric Glesser explained the history, logic, and inspiration of each design and encouraged participants to provide their honest feedback and opinions on comment cards.

This year’s Meet was dedicated to the memory of Jurphaas Van Rietschoten, Spyderco’s European Sales Representative for many years. “Jur,” as he was known to his friends, was a retired member of the Dutch Air Force and a passionate Spyderco fan. He was also instrumental in developing the Meet concept and organizing all previous Amsterdam events. Sadly, he passed away last year, but his spirit was certainly with us at this year’s gathering.

For those of us who were not able to participate in this year’s Meet, there is good news. “SpyderCollector,” aka “Mr. Blonde,” was allowed to photograph a select number of the knives shared at the event. A trusted, long-time friend of Spyderco, Mr. Blonde is an extremely knowledgeable Spyderco historian and a talented photographer.

His outstanding photos, videos, and written descriptions can be found on his web site https://spydercollector.wordpress.com/ and in one of the most popular threads on the Spyderco Forum https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=94486&p=1704129&hilit=amsterdam#p1704129.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the 2023 Amsterdam Meet such a great success and to all Spyderco fans for sharing in the excitement!

From March 2-5, Spyderco also joined more than 1,100 exhibitors and 34,000 attendees from 119 countries at the IWA Outdoor Classics trade show in Nuremberg, Germany. After weathering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, IWA came back strong as one of the world’s foremost trade fairs for hunting, shooting sports, outdoor activities, and tactical products. For Spyderco, IWA is the perfect venue for us to connect with our ever-growing network of international dealers and distributors, particularly those from Europe and Asia. It is also an extraordinary opportunity for us to share our latest products with prospective dealers, members of the media, professional end users, and a wide range of knife enthusiasts from all walks of life. We look forward to returning to Nuremberg next year for the 50th anniversary of this remarkable trade show.

Our sincere thanks to all those who visited us at these shows for your continued interest in Spyderco and Spyderco products!
