Hallo,

This "Storkniv" will - God willing and my woman permitting- be finished befor Christmas.

The blade is the last one from a batch that I made some years ago. The steel is UHB15LM, 4,5 mm thick, it is 18,5 cm long and 37 mm high and has a polished forge finish.

The handle has a hidden peening and consists of walrus and stabilized, x-cut slightly spalted Birke Maser.

The handle need som more work, it is to thick and should have a better finish. The sheat will be a leather one with some 80-100 stitches.

Thanks for looking

Hey PO,

nice, tradidtional knife, you´d think, you come from scandinavia ;)

Is this birk coloured, never saw this colour at at piece of birk before?

Best regards,

Nick

Thanks Nick,

The Birch is dyed befor stabilization.

I have used stabilized, spalted, x-cut Birch befor with interesting result. You can se one exampel in my thread "Verseumte Birke".

There is a problem, when the x-cut Birch is stabilized and colored in the same process it usually is just blue or red and the pattern is lost so it looks very dull.

This time I colored it in a bath of red/Brown leather color and aceton for 4 weeks, dried it and sent it to stabilization.

I am quite happy with the result.

Best regards

Hallo,

The sheat is now completed.

The knife has a hidden peening,

The first step in making the sheat was to make a last on which to form the leatrher. The last is attatched on the blade and removed when the leather has dried.

The finished knife with the sheat looks like this;

Hi PO,

Very nicely made knife and sheath ! Classic !

How well does the UHB15LM perform ?

:super::super::super::super::super:

Thanks Hattie,

I Think UHB15 LM is Avery good and cheap knifesteel. I have used 15 LM and UHB20C (20C has some 0,15-0,25 % higher carbon content) and as long as both are heat treated in a proper way I am not able to notice any differens i practical use.

Best regards
PO
