Subcom Folder Trainer?

Aloha ALL,

Made a SF Trainer awhile back by simply dulling the blade. One "problem" I had was discerning which was the trainer, and which wasn't when it came time to "play". To solve this, I painted the scale red. After surprisingly being able to come home from my normal shift in Hell the other day, I made a stop at the hardware store and grabbed another can of red spray paint and re-sprayed my SFT for pictures sake.

I have been getting a LOT of requests via email, and sometimes through posts, for an SF Trainer. I always thought this was a good idea, which is why I made my own. Training with the SFT (Hmmmm, does it kinda sound like "Safety" when ya say "SFT"?) is a lot of fun, and shows what a small blade can and cannot do. Cripes, getting hit by the beveled, but dulled blade doesn't even hurt! Much. I was messing with my friend Billy the other day, who is an expert at escrima, and lemme tell you, I am glad I have this SFT because it is more "fun" to feel and go through the "aliveness"!!! He got me a few good times across the hands and forearm, afterwhich we always discuss what "could have been" with a live blade. Eek. At full speed, he kinda had a hard time catching me, LOL, but that's because he just started another chemo treatment, so he was feeling sluggish. (Please keep Billy in prayer). However, he did shock the heck outta me literally when he parried me somehow, and I caught the full force of the SFT "tip" under my armpit! Ideally, blade kept thick from spine to "edge" and a more rounded tip would be appreciated, and a great improvement over my SFT! LOL!

Awhile back, the SF was hailed by Kim Breed of BLADE on it's utility usage. Many folks like the SF for that purpose...it's a great beater knife! However, a recent article in Tactical Knives done by one of my all time favorite writers, Mr. Jerry VanCook, hailed the SF for it's SD usage. The SF was also featured in COMMANDO, a French Weapons publication...although I don't know what was said aside from that the author carries one as a back up knife. I know a buncha folks "who know" what a 2" blade can do. Some "Non-Knife People" get a bit apprehensive about closing the SF, so a SFT would teach them properly without scaring the heck outta them. That being said...

Do you guys think there'd be a market for a SFT?

God bless and mahalo much!

Hello Daywalker

It's a nice idea,a trainer from this knife.

But I think that there is only a small market for collectors for it.

With regards
William

Alohallo Knothole,

Thanks for posting a reply...I was not targeting "collectors", I was meaning for actual "users" of the SF.:hehe: Perhaps a limited run for the SD at heart?

You take care and God bless:super:

Hello Chad,

As you may know, self defense is not much of a topic in this forum because most of us see knives more as tools or collectibles. Therefore it´s possible that you will not get many answers on this, although it is a very nice idea and I am sure, there are enough people with a martial arts or law enforcement background here who would welcome it.

But wait...some of those freaks among us :glgl: , would buy it because of the red scale and mount the normal blade to it to make this little cutie look even more sheeple-friendly :super:

Bye,
Daniel

Mahalo Daniel,

Thanks for telling me this. I didn't know about the lack of SD interest here.

The scale swap is something I worry about because: Friend goes over to friend's house. Looks at friend's knives. Friend sees SFT, opens it and immediately slashes his friend. Friend gets cut. Friend did not know that friend swapped the SFT scale onto a live SF!:staun:

I see knives as a tool also...it just may be the tool you need to save your life!;)

Thanks again, and God bless:super:

Chad, it isnt a lack of interest, but part of the forum rules. Attracted too many wanna-be's (see Practical Tactical on Bladeforums.com for comparison ;)).

Blessings,

Keno

Alohallo Keno!

Long time no see! Hope you have been well...

So no SD talk on this forum...gotcha! I will not talk of such things again. My apologies, and thanks for letting me know.

God bless:super:

Hello again,

I feel sorry if it sounded like "lack of interest", but as Keno said, it is also a rule here, not to talk explicitely about SD. I simply forgot to mention that.

Of course, every knife could serve as weapon one day in that unique moment, but personally, I do not know anyone who would recognize the difference between the sense of a black, blue or red scaled knife and so I would assume the knowledge of most of my companions and other folk (is this easy to read for you, `cos I am not so much awake anymore {e.g. a bit drunk, due to a party}?)

Although I have no practical use for it by myself, I wouldn´t try to stop you with this model. Nobody is restricted here, because he wants some sort of "dangeous item" (as our law would probably call knives, which are not weapons by their name or intention) for his own use, whatever that may be, but If any discussion about techniques how to stab or slash anyone comes up, it would go too far soon.

There would definitely be a market, but certainly not as much as for the other variants..
