Hello, my dear friends!

Today I’m pleased to present you with a worthy addition to the topic started by our esteemed friend Abu. Another knife from the early 20th century from the Jewish «challah knife» series. The inscription on the scale «לכבוד שבת» “Lichvod Shabbat” means “In honor of Shabbat”. It was made in Solingen, Germany. It’s very similar in style to one of the knives Abu shared. I don't recognize the maker's monogram, F.J.D., but I hope you can help me identify it. The quality and condition of the knife are excellent. The carbon steel blade works perfectly and has no play. One scale is made of black horn, the second scale has an ornament made of an unknown material, similar to resin. I welcome your comments. Enjoy.

Ein teil der Intarsien sind aus Sinterstein gearbeitet, also dem Material, welches sich an den Quellen in Karlsbad absetzt. ICh meine, das wurde schonmal eingangs besprochen. Ob das schwarze material um die steine kunstharz ist, ist unbekannt. Es gibt dazu kaum aufzeichnungen, welches Material verwendet wurde. Es wurde mal Bakelit vermutet, aber sicher ist das nicht. Ansonsten ein sehr schönes Messer und sehr selten. Danke für das zeigen hier.

Danke für die Erinnerung an die obige Diskussion. Sie ist mir sehr wichtig. Der Austausch mit Freunden macht Freude am Messerbesitz und -sammeln. Haben Sie eine Idee zum Hersteller?

Hello Arie, Lucky one! A really rare find in that beautiful condition. The blade looks nearly mint.
Well, that material is actually no resin but real stones. Found and still there around Karlsbad. Mineral sediments by the hot springs. Give me some time, I am working on a thread about those knives. But it’s difficult to get Knowledge about that processing.
Makers brand I havn‘t seen yet, unfortunately.
