Abu, this was a wonderful post which involves a particular favorite type of knife of mine, the horseman model.
And of course the "Armeemesser" models are another fascinating variation of the horseman knives.
Here are a few of my examples along with some catalog illustrations supporting the knives pictured. Two Henckels on bottom, with a Dittert, and Graef & Schmidt.
The first Armeemesser knives that I can document are seen in a Graef & Schmidt catalog from 1900 which were made by Henckels.
No such Armeemesser models are shown in a factory Henckels catalog from 1898, so it appears that 1900 is among the earliest variations.
A Henckels factory catalog from 1906 shows five different Armeemesser models, and by the 1920s, Henckels was offering eleven different Armeemesser models.
Henckels offered one final Armeemesser type knife at least as late as 1953.
Also shown is an early 1900s Dittert catalog showing one of three different models. At least four different Dittert Armeemesser models are known.
It is very interesting to see so many unique variations from different companies throughout over one half century.
I see that I just needed to upgrade my account to add pictures easily.
