Hi Shark,

Sorry about that. We needed the Chinook samples for the next show. They should be in production very shortly. the blades have been ground.

On the Bison, we're still working on it. We changed the lock from a Compression lock to a Stop-Lock which is a new lock patent we just received. We changed the blade shape to thinner and lighter. We've had a lot of good reaction on the Bison in some countries, so we'll continue to refine the design.

I guess the problem is that we are working on so many projects at any time that they all take longer.

Maybe we can get a 'German Pen Knife' with a stag handle ?

I guess we could talk about what a German specific model might look like, be made out of, etc.

Hi Sal, thanks for your answer - I absolutely understand that you can`t sell protos during a show...
But I would have loved to carry that one home
The new chinook is a true winner in my eyes - I think the flat ground blade is the by far better option for real life cutting tasks.
Great news about the bison - I`m really looking forward to a "full size" spyderco :super:
I`m happy to see you here in this forum - I`m reading a lot on spyderco forums and bladeforums - but it is a real pleasure to see you at this place :)
and it`s a good possibility to practise some english - I really need some training in that
greetings shark

oh and as soon as you do this german pen knife I`ll by my first knife with stag... :D

Welcome Sal,

have a great stay here. I fell in love to Spydercos a few years back, and that're the only knifes I carry, besides my SAKs. My all time fav is the Military and soon I'll get two new black bladed ones :super: .

Feel free to tell us something about the Military 2 :steirer:

Hi Shark,

I agree that the full flat will work better on this model. But in reality, only time will tell. Many hunters prefer a hollow grind which keeps the blade thin farther up the blade than a flat grind. My personal peference is for full flat for most blade shapes.

Although I must admit that Ed Schempp has influenced my thinking in blade grinds with his "Schempp grinds" which is similar to a Japanese sword.

Regarding a "German knife with stag", The UK Pen knife was a fun project that became a regular production piece. It has also caused the creation of a smaller version that is now in R&D. A Special "German" specific model, designed by the forum, could be an interesting diversion to my regular "day job".

Perhaps another thread?

Keno, Ed Schempp said that wanted to participate in this forum, but wasn't able to log in. If I post his email to you, is it possible to give him a password? His German is poor so he'll have to speak English.

Hi C36,

The Military model has an interesting story. I'm "on the road" right now, but I'll post a separate thread with the story and reasons for the different aspects of the design.

This is bad news. The flat grind was the reason I bought the Manix instead of the Chinook. Now I feel forced to buy the Chinook, too. ;) Always loved the style of this knife.

And may I ask humbly for Spyderco to produce a really big folder? A Bob Lum Chinese Folder on steroids would be great (with an 5" blade maybe) or a collaboration with Jens Anso. I've heard you consider something along this line. If so, please make it happen soon. Since there are no restrictions in Germany on blade lenghts for folders other than autos I think you could sell a lot of them here.

Regards
Michael

Edit: The best place to discuss suggestions for future Spyderco products seems to the 'German Penknive' Thread, so I will repeat my request for a big folder there.
