Recently it was discovered that the Giraffes were not two species as it thought before, but that they are six different species. That was the news already days ago, but what it is important to inform it is that the six are in extinction danger. They are the two species that are in greater danger, the giraffe of Rotschild and the Nigerian giraffe. The news that they are six different species, worries more about its future, since the different species cannot reproduce to each other, or rather if they do it its descendants are infertile. 30% of the population of giraffes have disappeared that existed 10 years ago, and if the biologists continue thinking that the extinction danger can be greater, since the groups are different, and different the risks from that is two species they face, as the climatic change and the human pressure in form of furtive hunting and increase of the agricultural zones. The two species that we mentioned in the beginning are in a very serious danger. Of the giraffe of Rotschild hundreds of unit in certain dead grounds of Kenya only survive. But the one that is in greater danger of the six it is the Nigerian giraffe, that not absolutely populates certain areas with countries of the Sahel between Nigeria and Chad. Hardly if they are left 160 units... and although it is known that they are left so few continue being victims of the furtive hunting and the captures for zoological establishments. In Nigeria one thinks that only they are left 50.....
Hace poco se descubrió que las Jirafas no eran dos especies como se pensaba antes, sino que son seis especies diferentes. Eso fue noticia hace ya unos días, pero lo que es importante informar es que las seis están en peligro de extinción.
Son dos las especies que están en mayor peligro, la jirafa de Rotschild y la jirafa nigeriana.
La noticia de que son seis especies diferentes, preocupa más por su futuro, ya que las especies diferentes no pueden reproducirse entre sí, o mejor dicho si lo hacen su descendencia es infértil.
Han desaparecido el 30% de la población de jirafas que existía hace 10 años, y si los biólogos siguen creyendo que se trata de dos especies el peligro de extinción puede ser mayor, ya que son diferentes los grupos, y diferentes los riesgos a que se enfrentan, como el cambio climático y la presión humana en forma de caza furtiva y aumento de las zonas agrícolas.
Las dos especies que mencionábamos al principio están en un peligro muy serio. De la jirafa de Rotschild tan sólo sobreviven unos cientos de ejemplares en ciertos espacios protegidos de Kenya.
Pero la que está en mayor peligro de las seis es la jirafa nigeriana, que puebla áreas no del todo determinadas de países del Sahel entre Nigeria y Chad. Apenas si quedan 160 ejemplares… y aunque es sabido que quedan tan pocas siguen siendo víctimas de la caza furtiva y de las capturas para establecimientos zoológicos. En Nigeria se cree que sólo quedan unas 50 .....
