Dear Denis,
thank you for the reply to my constructive criticism. I'm looking forward to meet you in person some time.
Since I don't like people that only nag without offering a solution or hint, I thought about the screws last night. I hope it's ok for you that I post what I came up with, using pretty similar screws like in your dagger. Maybe you like this quick and easy modification, only took a few minutes:
- I chucked up the screw in a hand drill and gave it a short spin on the belt grinder (with a worn-out 400 grit belt, on the slack part of the belt), to remove the odd bumps on the screw.
- Then I used a diamont triangle file to cut small groves into the screw, to give it a flower pattern. I used the Torx star as a reference, so no need to mark anything in adance. Still I completely painted the screw head with a felt marker to have some contrast, to make it easier to see what I'm doing. Another quick spin on the belt grinder removed accidental scratch marks...
- Afterwards, the screw received a quick polish on the buffing wheel. I did not polish it too much, because some file marks in the groves should remain for contrast.
- Finally, to make the screw look more interesting, I gave it some tender kisses with the blowtorch, to give it some yellow temper color. Some more heat and the color would obviously change from gold to bronze to purple to blue and finally to a dull grey. Going for one of the latter colors, buffing up the flats again and then go for gold again might have looked even better...
