NEW EXCLUSIVE RELEASE PROCESS
UpdateIn recent years, Spyderco’s Exclusive knives have become an increasingly popular segment of our production efforts. By definition, an Exclusive is a special configuration of an established Spyderco design that is produced for a single wholesale customer or distributor. Typically, it features a unique, one-of-a-kind combination of features not found on the standard version of that model. These variables may include blade steel, blade finish or coating, handle material, handle color, and even handle texture. Although multiple runs of an Exclusive may be produced over time, as its name implies, it is exclusive to that dealer or distributor and commercially available only through them.
We have always done our best to support our wholesale buyers in their efforts to “spread the word” concerning specific Exclusives and their availability. Typically, we have done this through our own social media channels and in-house art photography of these elite knives. However, as the number of Exclusives has steadily increased and social media policies have evolved, promoting Exclusives effectively with this method has become challenging. We knew there had to be a better way.
After lots of brainstorming, Spyderco is proud to announce a new policy for supporting our dealers and distributors in the announcement and promotion of Exclusive knives. Rather than struggling with the ever-changing landscape of social media platforms, all our future promotion of Exclusive products will be made through the Spyderco app. Every Exclusive product will receive a dedicated “tile” on the app that will showcase it and highlight it equally to all users. Announcement alerts will be sent out to closely parallel dealer releases of the product and, when necessary, may be batched to support simultaneous releases of more than one Exclusive.
We are confident this new methodology will give all Exclusives equal visibility in the eyes of our customers and the market as a whole. It will also leverage the many advantages of the Spyderco app to make Exclusive announcements more timely, efficient, and informative than posting on social media platforms.
