Germany specific Spyderco model?

Yep, these are just small bladed, single edged knives. Call it "civilian rescue knives" or so and be done with it.

If the designer/maker calls it a weapon, it is a weapon.:staun:
Read the law accurately....;)

At this time, I question how many will actually carry a fixed blade. The Fred Perrin designed "Street Beat" will serve that need very well.

We made some protos of a Native model with a small hole heavily chamferred. One is hollow ground, the other is flat ground. I'll try to post some pics next week.

We also have a proto of a new "Rescue" UK model, fully serrated, for the Australian market, which is also getting prohibitive.

Honestly I tried with a fixed, falled back to my folders in no time...

The modified Native sounds very nice, can´t wait to see them!

If going fixed I would go for a balde less than 4". In the 4" segment there are plenty of knives to buy, but for me all are too large (approx. 20cm or more overall length) for EDC in the pants's pocket.

Fixed knives with a 3" or 3.5" blade usually have a small handle too, which makes most of them three finger knives, i.e. no real replacement for a one full fledged one hand knife.

What the market lacks, is a 3"-3.5" blade with a handle at least 8cm in length, something like the Ontario RAT-3 only with a less wide real 3" blade, overall length approx. 17.5cm with a flat handle that's still usable.

Another thing with fixed knives, where do you put the sheath? On-Belt carry is no option for most of us, imagine going to the office or the supermarket with a knife on your belt, that's screaming for trouble. A sheath you can clip to the inside the pocket, just like a one hand knife, may be a good option.

Hi Sal,

it´s very nice to hear that there´s something going on in that case.
I´m looking forward to see the pics of the protos.

At the moment i´m not sure what you mean with " a small hole heavily chamferred".
This because a small hole could suggest a police officer that there was a thumbstud.
And we all do not know how this knives will be categorized by law.
(onehandfolders with removed thumbstud ore closed opening hole)

best regards
Chris

We have a number of models that were made with small holes. Some are still coming to us. We'll bring them to the IWA show.

I'll see if I can get a pic of the Native version before we go to
Germany.

I don't know that we're "there" yet. but we will ultimately make legal Spyderco's for you.

Hey Sal, a lot of knifeknuts including myself really appreciate how you and Spyderco take care of all kinds of different knife communities around the globe. Thank you so much!!! Nonetheless, my Mili will stay in my pocket whatso-frigging-ever as I always have a good reason to use it.

All best,
Carsten

Sorry for warming up an old thread:D
My search for a leagal to carry Spydie brought me here.
Great that a US-company takes care about the needs of his German customers!:super:

The UK Pen Knife would be an option, but actually I´d prefer a blade that´s a bit longer - like several others already mentioned it in this thread.
typo´s suggestion in post #62 would be "mine" - if I had the choice I´d go with a blade lenght like the Endura models got it.
Scales that cover the hole are a good solution IMHO. To make it a Spyderco at first sight there could also be holes in the scales, right where the blades hole is. It would still be impossible to open it one-handed but wouldn´t look that bulky then.

Any news about German models we can look forward to?:hehe:

Thank you Sal,
It's great to hear that you guys are willing to make a specific German Spyderco knife for us!
I will certainly buy one, please let us know when it is being launched.
Best wishes,
Oliver
