Her mit den kleinen Franzosen- vive la France

Hi Arie,
my ladies' daughter passed her studies in Montpellier University with a 'cum laude' mark,
she is now 24 years old. As she never talked much about her studies, I thought about an Opinel,
but when Monsieur le Professeur passed her the certificate, I had to re-consider. 😊
I gave her this Laguiole with a damascus blade,

and she was absolutely delighted. In France, it is not unusual to use your own knife in restaurants,
so now she is adequately equipped for her first job, which she started on September 1st, 2024.
Kind Regards,
Rudi

Hi Rudi. She must be a very smart and independent girl. I wish her luck in her career and life.
As for the knife, it is beautiful. Very elegant. I like the combination of materials and colors. This is the light tip of the horn if I am not mistaken. Most likely you ordered it as a private order from Yann and waited 5 weeks. Well done. Fontenille Pataud is one of my favorite French manufacturers. Very professional team.
I have 3 children and I try to instill in them a love for knives.

We currently have a family reunion in France, both ladies are Cameroonian nationals, we met during a seismic job on Mont Cameroun. Madame was our geologist, she is employed by a national Cameroonian agency.
You're right, the scales are light horn tip. I actually talked to Yann on the phone this morning to thank him for the Lombard, we agreed to meet in autumn.

Oh, enjoy your family. France is a great place for that. Do they speak French in Cameroon? You are a seismologist? Yann is a nice guy. I didn't quite get you about Lombardy. Did you order a Lombardi knife from him?

We speak French in the family, the ladies mother tongue is Bamoun, a Bantu language.
As all Cameroonians they also speak perfect English, Cameroon is perfectly bilingual.
You see Le Lombard on Page 91 of this thread.

I thought you’re a from Germany.
Bamoun is the Local language.
I’ll check it thank you

Your your Lombard knife from FP is gorgeous!
I see you’re a Damascus steel lover 😉
Don't forget to warn your ladies about the peculiarity of carbon

Cameroon is one of the safer African countries, but also ha its difficulties.
In certain places in Douala I wouldn't go at night, but that's ok with me.
I personally like the rainforest, Madame works there, other people are shit-scared.
We live outside the town of Edéa.

Thank you, Rudi. I have friends who go on vacation to a new place in Africa every year. They invite me to come along every time. Maybe I'll decide to do it someday.
