Jokke,
I have taken the recomended approach:
It works well, it is not without potential problems. There are modern cast irons available which will serve your needs ( at least in the beginning). I have just attempted to duplicate the Georgian method of Bulat steel making http://forums.dfoggknives.com/index.php?showtopic=18364 and would highly recommend the method..even if one decided not to go with home made crucibles.
If I could, I would attend the Georgian Bulat Symposium and learn more about the methods, and the thoughts of others working with this process. ( I will be checking for last minute flight "deals" to try to get there, as I believe it is an opportunity which only comes up once in a while).
Regarding the "Whole Bakery", you will get there...this is a very slow moving topic.
Forgive me for writing in English..to do it in German would require bothering neighbors and friends.
